Another new experience for the girls on this day – a ride on a car ferry! They couldn’t wait. There are several tunnels and car ferries on any trip through Norway. Their cousins hadn’t ridden a car ferry yet either. Along the way, there were several spots just begging us to stop and take a few pictures…which we indulged a few times.
A Stave church built in 1150 was one of the attractions along the way. Kinda old, eh? Always makes anything in the States seem so new. Truls’ brother was married in a Stave church a few years ago. Very colorful inside, beautiful paintings. We didn’t take the time to tour the interior as we really needed to get on the road but still, the exterior was worth a short stop.
I’m always amazed at the animals wandering along the roads. A couple of mountain goats seemed to be waiting to meet everyone as the cars got off the ferry. Glad they stayed off to the side of the road.
We couldn’t resist a rest stop along the fjord. The views are forever breathtaking – the clouds are fascinating, the waters a deep, deep blue and the greenery of the foliage serves as beautiful backdrops to the small farms dotting the hills.
